Armed Forces Day -
Originates from the date of August 31, 1949, when Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation to serve as a day to thank and honor the men and women currently serving in our nation's military.
Veterans Day-
In 1919 on the 11th of November “Armistice Day” was created and that is the beginning of Veterans Day. I day we as Americans use to honor those who served in any war to date and thank them for their sacrifice rather physical mental or the fact they did with out so we could have the lives we do.
Memorial Day-
Memorial Day is an American Holiday created to honor the ultimate sacrifice a member of our nation's military has paid for our freedoms. On the last Monday in May we honor those service members. Originally known and Decoration day it was set aside as far back as the civil war in 1971 it become an official federal holiday
I know some say what does it matter to separate the days why not just honor them all the same. The simple fact is as time moves on our veterans have been treated differently you don't see the iconic imagery of WW2 when the Vietnam Veterans came home. WW2 had parades and veterans welcomed home with hugs. Below you see the iconic imagery for WW2 called kissing the war goodbye.
Vietnam veterans were spat on and yelled at called names and all because they did what orders said. Just as generations of Soldiers before and after have done.
As you may be able to tell I am passionate about the service men and women in uniform provide this country. Why does it matter to me? Because every uniform is filled with a human a family member to someone. Several of my family have served and some continue to serve. So please pay the proper respect and learn what holiday is for what occasion.
